Rapper and music mogul Jay-Z has initiated a defamation lawsuit against a former accuser and their legal representatives, following allegations of sexual assault that were previously dismissed. The lawsuit comes in the wake of the earlier case, which was dropped in February 2023.

In the defamation suit filed in the United States District Court, Jay-Z, whose real name is Shawn Carter, claims that the accuser and their attorneys made false statements that damaged his reputation and caused emotional distress. The allegations in question were made public last year, but the accuser’s legal team decided to withdraw the lawsuit earlier this year, citing various reasons that remain undisclosed.

The current legal action centers around statements made by the accuser and the subsequent public dissemination of those claims, which Jay-Z asserts are completely unfounded and defamatory. According to the filing, Jay-Z seeks compensatory damages for harm to his reputation, as well as punitive damages aimed at deterring similar accusations in the future.
