Hong Kong Convicts Two Activists Who Lit Candles for Tiananmen’s Dead

Two Hong Kong pro-democracy activists have been convicted of inciting subversion for organizing annual vigils commemorating the 1989 Tiananmen Square crackdown. The convictions came under Hong Kong’s National Security Law, which China imposed in 2020 and effectively banned such gatherings. The two activists now face up to 10 years in prison for their role in keeping the memorials alive.
