Lost for 74 Years, the Plane That Made Flying Safer Has Finally Been Found

The wreckage of a Pan Am flight that crashed into the Atlantic Ocean in 1952 has been discovered roughly 2,000 feet underwater off Puerto Rico. The Douglas DC-4 went down shortly after takeoff from San Juan, killing 52 of the 69 people aboard. Searchers identified the largely intact plane by its still-visible Pan Am logo. The disaster led to the now-standard preflight safety briefing used on all commercial flights today.
